The guy that played Eddie Winslow on Family Matters once made a good point in a DJ Vlad interview. Child acting tends to attract scumbag parents who see and use their kid as a cash cow. He considered himself lucky because he wasn't pushed into acting and his parents threatened to yank him out of it if his grades slipped. But his friend Orlando Jones was the bread winner of his family and his parents yanked him out of school regularly so he could keep acting.

In the worst case scenarios, parents have pimped their kids out to child molesters with power in the industry to advance their kid's career (like what happened with Shirley Temple). A scrupulous parent who legitimately cared for their kid would have pulled their kid out of that situation. Going back to Orlando Jones, even if he never was a child actor he still wouldn't have stood a chance by just having those parents.
