The Disney tentacle monster got a hold of the franchise and it was yanking it in every which way to appease everyone. The bigger problem is that the franchise went off the rails by a combination of things. Sidelining most of the new characters after TFA. Trying to be too "current" with the writing and script style. Dragging old corpses on screen and baiting old fans with them. Putting up a woke facade and then turning your black actor into a joke.
