The show is definitely trying to be the next Game of Thrones, but the adult stuff in GOT will feel really out of place in LOTR... Also, we saw how shitty the story can become when there isn't enough original source material (Hobbit Trilogy, end of Game of Thrones), it does not bode well that all they have is a few parts of the Silmarillion to go off of. the tolkien estate is very controlling about how the works are used and retold, they lost their shit over the jackson movies but couldn't do anything because warner bros had bought the rights to produce movies for those books back in the 70s. apparently the estate is being much more heavy handed with enforcing their vision of the series with amazon. --- Taarsidath-an halsaam.
