If it were to have to resort to this to kill the Shark, the Mountain would consider it a victory, and the Shark would consider itself defeated. That said, the mountain would prefer not to go Volcano. Many secrets lie inside the Mountain. He has complex control over the shifting secret passages and booby traps within. He has got lesser beings to help with the setup of spike pits, Ptolemaic keys, and other such things (though to be honest, it was more out of boredom and vanity. He could easily just drop you into a big hole, don't really need spikes at the bottom). The lava at his roots gives him access to pressurized acid and poison gas, which he can release at will, if he senses the need. Poison gas vents aren't necessarily everywhere, but there are a lot of them. He also has boiling hot water and steam at his command. The animals that live in and around him consider him a god and will do his bidding. He's smart, but not a genius. He has 1000s of years of experience to draw upon.
