Extremely left wing here. I think guns are mostly fine. Like, objectively speaking, yes they're a public safety problem and America has a horrible gun violence problem, but in spite of that, I would still rather normal people have weapons than the state.

I still get very annoyed at people who lie about and downplay gun violence, and people who pretend to own them out of some ideological "muh freedom" conviction, or LARPing about how you're going to someday use it to defend your family someday from fascism or communists or whatever. It's like, shut up, you just like owning a gun because they're cool. You and your fucking personal armory aren't going to stop a swat team from kicking down your door if authoritarians ever take over America. (Or, alternatively, some people constantly fantasize about getting to shoot someone.)

I'm still pretty much fine with mass gun ownership (especially because I come from a hunting family), but people shouldn't pretend like it's anything but a fun little hobby. Basing your entire politics and personality around what's essentially a hobby is so fucking dumb. Muh 2nd Amendment people are stupid.

Another one: Alcoholism is a horrible addiction and vice that Americans are way too casual about. American culture normalizes alcoholic behaviors so much that many alcoholics pass under the radar as normal functional people, when lowkey their addiction is actually deeply destructive to themselves and their families. I guess that counts as a "conservative" view because I think a lot of teetotaling fundamentalist Christians would agree with me. I don't want to do Prohibition or anything again, but I would like more community outreach, support for families effected by alcoholism and maybe some kind of limit on purchases like we already do with overcounter medicines.
