Which isn't right but not a super big ordeal either It kind of is a big deal The cop either tampered with what was possibly evidence by fucking up the chain of custody, or forced someone to take custody and or ownership of a random baggie that was on their friends person, concealed at the time. It's fucked up no matter what. Either give it back to the person he took it from, take it as evidence, set it aside until it's determined what to do with it, or take it to be burnt or destroyed. A cop can't (or at least should NOT) just gift you random things, even if they're legal to own during a search that don't belong to you.
