The reason so much music was from Square Enix, Sega, Capcom and Bandai-Namco is because a lot of Japanese companies do not want to sponsor or be associated with the Olympics anymore. The public is extremely against them and the prime minister is basically finished almost entirely because of them. The Olympics opening was almost certainly scraped together with whatever and whoever they could find that was still willing to perform. I love how the Olympics are supposed to be some sort of gesture of goodwill where all the nations come together to compete in good-natured sports... and yet it's always a shitshow with temper tantrums aplenty from so-called world leaders.
