It means that you can take things - and appreciate them - for what they are

Thats the exact thought process i went through, except for another type of music and while i didnt outright dismiss it, i did realize it takes actual life experience to relate to some of the undertones beyond the surface level of just "this rocks" or "yeah this is proper heavy/technical" or whatever. But i cant say the same for older rock/guitar music. It can be argued that all generations of bands wrote songs that cover and relate to a specific emotion, its just that its the heavier stuff that matches my cravings of emotional impact.

I cant understand it when a band is singing about some dark/sad/important/whatever topic and musically all you hear is neutral elevator music that has been outmatched in its dynamic nuance long ago. And its not about just being heavy. Post-rock for example is a relatively mellow genre in its sonic aggression, but its never dull or neutral, its always emotionally impactful and atmospheric. Thats exactly the properties that older rock lacks in my opinion. Its all very neutral.
