What happens is that theyll walk over the powder and then clean themselves of later (with their mouths), the boric acid then get into their bodies and kills them. And since roaches eat other dead roaches, youre spreading the poison even more efficiently. Maybe throw a few mothballs in front of the door out of your garage too. Try not to keep garbage in there too long. At best, an afternoon.
