Asmongold thinks most FFXIV players are female
There's a real possibility more female players have jumped to playing that game now compared to WoW. He's probably aware of that and was making a joke of it (he knows some female characters are played by dudes). However, anyone who's played a multitude of online games knows what features attract female players the most.

Lady gamers have a tendency to favor games where you can beautify (dress-up) the character, especially in games where it's not made into a grinding challenge to do that. Many Asian-sourced online games have known (and banked on) this for a couple decades now. Much like how many male gamers "pump up" their male avatars into a fierce looking macho warlord (regardless of class), a large portion of female gamers WANT to glamorize their avatars into a demigoddess that's "pretty, sexy, cute, or all of the above". FF14 offers that pretty well, partly because most of the playable races are "humanized".

Basically the more "pretty" customizations a popular online multiplayer game offers, the significantly higher chance of luring in female gamers (and keeping them). A long-going joke about WoW over the years was the noticeable gender gap between the Alliance and the Horde. More female gamers had a higher tendency to pick the Alliance as their first choice because the faction fit closer to what many of them considered "norm cute", while the Horde looked more like a band of ugly mutant misfits by comparison. The fact that the Alliance offered the Human race as a selectable option made THAT big of an impact in their preferences (it was familiar). Alliance also offered an assortment of alternate races that were basically just other flavors of humans and could have similar appeal. By comparison, not a lot of female gamers were racing to play a goblin, troll, orc, or giant cow woman on Horde...

WoW has retained it's trademark cartoony appearance over the years (along with faction race restrictions), while FF14 looks more like playable anime with an adult tone. And while WoW offers a huge system of collectable appearance items to work for, FF14 offers flat out actual fashion pieces (relatable to real-life outfits) which has become a popular staple in other Asian-sourced games. Guess which system the lady gamers tend to prefer...

So while Asmongold's commentary might have been a comical generalization, anyone suspecting that FF14 has some appeal to female gamers is paying attention.

The funny thing about telling others to take the high road is how often it's hypocritical advice.
