What are you talking about? Nintendo loves 'em

Release something hot in limited numbers, get them into the hands of scalpers then flood the market with them

Nintendo sells that item to the scalper, popularity of that item rises with everyone willing to pay the inflated price and then Nintendo easily sells the next batch
I don't necessarily agree. They got screwed by this strategy a few times. The NES classic was a good example. People were obssessed with it in the first run, but no one could buy it and by the time the second wave came out the hype for it was dead and no one could give a crap about it. I ended up getting the classic for $40 in box with an extra controller. I feel like if they just produced the right amount to begin with, they would've made more money. 3D All-stars is a good example of this. While it theoretically was "limited" they produced enough units that nearly everyone could buy it and they ended up selling millions of units of that game.
