| UnfairRepresent 07/15/21 3:05:33 PM #47: | Yeah that's a disturbingly bad and inaccurate take. Slavery was absolutely a race thing and the slavers openly said so. The idea that God intended blacks to be slaves to their superior whites and the Americans were being Good Christians by instructing them as people through slavery was widespread and openly taught in churches and schools You'll see this idealogy repeated at length by almost anyone in the US who owned slaves. Not to mention the horrific treatment of black people during reconstruction in the South following the civil war that was arguably worse than slavery and a precursor to how the Nazis treated Jews in the 1930s. Now I understand the concept I think other users are going on about that the US did not invent slavery and that the Islamic slave trade was even crueler. But the guy directedly brought up the founding of America and then said slavery was never about race even though it went on.
