Just like with Mythra/Pyras voice actress, people who are involved and know if a character is being included in Smash cant say anything about it. They cant confirm or deconfirm. If MC was the final character, the guy would have kept quiet about the rumors. Instead, he said Yeah, it would be cool but there are no plans to have MC in Smash.
