I was just thinking about this recently, and how really skin color shouldn't matter any more than hair color.

maybe it's as equally stupid to cast someone because their skin as dark as it is to cast them because their skin is light, except ok, the currently trend is toward favoring light skin, so pushing back against the trend in order to equalize things, fine I guess.

in this case though, I think I would say that the problem is that the concept of Snow White is itself racist. the central theme is that she is exceptionally beautiful because her skin is white. that's ok if your personal preference is to be attracted to certain skin tones, but it's not really ok to present one skin tone as being "objectively" most beautiful.

so... I don't think I have an issue with it. maybe it's even a good thing. Ideally you should be able to cast a black person as just about any role and no one even notices. as if you were complaining because her eyes were the wrong color or something.

(ok and I'm forgetting that shes not black, but hispanic, but w/e same argument)
