Basically companies don't want to pay you more and they'll also think you won't have any loyalty to them and jump ship the first chance you get since you can do better

That is assuming they'd get hired by anyone else, the reason they settle for certain jobs is because the job market is a joke.

Also, why do employers expect loyalty when they MO is to look for any excuse to hang out employees to dry? Some even fire people due to ageism so they don't vest their stock options or become more expensive.
