I told myself if Birdy died every I would not get another parrot until later in life. I want a child at some point and small fingers and large, powerful, sharp beaks don't mesh well with kids. And pets cost a lot right now and are hard to find since everyone is getting a quarantine pet which hopefully they don't neglect or abandon when quarantine is over.

A cockatiel should be feasible - they're not really capable of particularly serious bites, and are more likely to retreat than attack if they have the option (and aren't cornered in their cage or something like that). And they're cuddly as hell.

They do tend to have longer lifespans than most small parrots though (15 to 20 years on average, with 36 being the world record), so keep that in mind.
