I don't know when and why this has become a trend. but when I see people critiquing the writing of almost anything, people often bring up the demographics of who it's aimed for. Plenty of movies / shows that aren't aimed at me have good writing and this excuse of, "we're not the target audience", just makes people lazier and lazier.

Riverdale is the biggest offender of this.
