Helga was actually pretty mean, but Hey Arnold was so well written that if you look at her home life you really could piece together why she acted the way that she did. And obviously she was in love with Arnold which is part of why she bullied him so much. And even aside from that she was still pretty good friends with all of the other main characters, there are a ton of episodes where they're all hanging outside of school.

It really was well written. I watched it not that long ago and amongst shows of it's time it holds up in a whole different space. I feel that way about Home Movies too. In Home Movies, the actors personally worked off each other so well that you could see the characters influence each others personalities in real time. Who ever got paired up more, the personalities would lean into each other.

That's off topic. But god damn Hey Arnold and Home Movies are my shit.
