Tom Holland probably would be the best spider man if he could like, actually get to be in a spider man movie.

Instead he's Spider Man in name only because all the other MCU stuff needs to get thrown around to show how cool it is Spider Man is finally in the MCU.

Nobody making a spiderman story should ever have thought it was a good idea to give Peter a "King of the nerds" schtick he's had in both MCU movies.

honestly that just came across to me as staying with the times. Similar to how 21 jump street jokes about how the nerds are cool kids now and shit.

so it only makes sense a peter this day and age would be far more popular than any previous iterations.

edit: I think people are looking at the Tobey films with some serious rose tint. The writing hasnt aged all that well imo and only really hit the mark because it was still so novel at the time.
