Would I have liked 9 time Earth Realm champion Goro? Sure. But the filmmakers didn't want to remake the '95 movie. They wanted to do something different. I can't blame them for not wanting to go through another montage of Goro beating up extras and for not spending half the movie hyping up what a bad ass he is.

More times than not, it's better to do something different than it is to do the same thing a second time. Maybe if this had simply been the '95 film with blood, a Sub-Zero/Scorpion fight, and a better fight between Johnny Cage and Goro, those same people who are happy now would've been disappointed. Maybe they'd be shaking their heads and wondering why Hollywood put out the same film we've already seen but some minor tweaks. (Look at the reaction to Star Wars 7.)
