so, a little explanation of Jamie Lee Curtis' character's story:

at the start, when she's being interviewed, she says something like "you had to find your own way to communicate with him"

throughout the course of the film, it becomes apparent that her husband is cheating on her, and that Harlan Thromby knew that he was cheating.

Harlan left her a note in an envelope.

her husband opens the envelope at one point, presumably to destroy the note so she doesn't find out that he was cheating, but all he sees is a blank piece of paper.

at the end of the film, when she goes for a smoke, she holds the note above the cigarette -- the note was written in invisible ink
