If you're talking Marvel kinda levels, it's not since Titanic and LOTR really if you adjust for inflation.

Plenty of winners and nominees pull in great box office numbers though. Slumdog Millionaire pulled in like 348 million in 2008, which wasn't too bad. District 9 got 210 million, The Blind Side got 309 million, and Inglorious Basterds pulled in 321 million, and UP pulled in a whopping 735 million which were all BP nominees in 2009.

Hell, let's go more recent. The 2019 Oscars had Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born, and Black Panther all as nominees. The all earned respectively 905, 436 million and 1.3 billion. If those aren't massive box office sucesses, then what is?

I'd rather the Oscars focus on quality, which they generally do, even if I'm not a massive fan of all the winners. I'd hate to see the Oscars turn into something like The Grammy's where they focus on sales over quality.
