this is really broad and not a specific premise but here's a guess:

1. neocapotalistic factors which are affecting the whole population, not just young women, are delaying the age at which marriage and childbirth are feasible on average.

2. medical technology makes it possible. birth control leads to fewer unwanted pregnancies (and abortions are more accessible but this is less of a factor) and thus fewer long term relationships/marriages borne out of necessity. also, fertility treatments extend the age which women can procreate, which is often the basis for a long-term relationship.

3. internet dating and casual sex culture heavily favors women as far as their number of options go, so they may be incentivized to stay single if this lifestyle favors them.

4. generally, women are more accepted in the work place across all levels than they used to be. this makes a career more viable, which is attractive to many because:

5. they've been fed a line about achievement and independence their whole lives and wish to pursue those.
