CasanovaZelos 04/25/21 12:36:18 PM #5: | Abbey Road is my #44 album of all time and my favorite from 1969. Most of the Beatles albums from Rubber Soul on are undeniable classics, but Abbey Road is the only one that doesn't strike me as having a weak moment. It kicks off with two of their best singles, has a Ringo vocal track that I actually enjoy, and ends with a wonderful medley. This is The Beatles at their most refined. Even my lowest track, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, is a lot of fun. Their other albums may have higher highs, but the consistency here makes a true masterpiece. Though I also don't get the 'medley' as a concept. It feels like people just collectively agreed everything from You Never Give Me Your Money on is a single medley even though there are distinct breaks between a few components. Certain parts of this medley certainly reference earlier parts, but an album featuring a motif does not mean the songs using that motif should be treated as part of the same movement. What exactly links Golden Slumbers to the previous tracks? Does having a cricket outro really mean You Never Give Me Your Money is conceptually linked to Sun King? The ones I left together definitely work - they explicitly build off of each other's energy without leaving a musical break. The only reason I can think of for people to link these all together is when "Carry That Weight" calls back to YNGMYM, but again, there have been two distinct breaks between those tracks. I know plenty of albums that do stuff like that. 1. Something (#1080 all-time) 2. Come Together (#1373) 3. Here Comes the Sun (#1897) 4. Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End (#2214) 5. You Never Give Me Your Money 6. Because 7. I Want You (She's So Heavy) 8. Oh! Darling 9. Sun King/Mean Mr. Mustard/Polythene Pam/She Came In Through the Bathroom Window 10. Octopus's Garden 11.
