That's a silly example given that the name "Romanesque" means "Rome like", obviously it's not going to be Roman, or they would just call it "Roman Style". Okay, I can't tell if you're being needlessly pedantic or disingenuous, but the point is it indicates a style that originates in a specific region. Just following up on the architecture example, Ionic, Corinthian, Gothic, Anglo-Saxon all lack the -esque and indicate a region. It's a common thing in art.
