Okay, I can't tell if you're being needlessly pedantic or disingenuous, but the point is it indicates a style that originates in a specific region. Just following up on the architecture example, Ionic, Corinthian, Gothic, Anglo-Saxon all lack the -esque and indicate a region. It's a common thing in art. CalArts animation doesn't necessarily have to come directly from CalArts.
