It had the novelty going for it with the facial animation stuff, but it had issues. I don't know if they specifically told the mocap actors to be as over-the-top as possible with their facial reactions because they didn't trust their audience to be able to understand subtlety, or because the actors weren't trained and really just didn't know how to act with any subtlety, but whatever the case was, it just kinda ended up looking strange.

And then the game itself just kind of fell apart after a while. The Homicide desk was pretty much the exact same case like five times in a row, and it just came completely unglued after that, to the point that I am struggling mightily to recall most of it. Phelps cheats on his wife for no goddamn reason whatsoever and gets demoted, you take control of another character and have a big action shootout finale for no goddamn reason whatsoever, and then Phelps dies in a sewer flood for no goddamn reason whatsoever.

Also, the open world was completely pointless. It looked good and you can appreciate the effort they put into recreating the LA of the '50s, but, like, what purpose did any of it serve except as background decoration?
