You don't know the truth but have an idea of what it is based on the sequence of events.
Here's the sequence of events.

1) Racist spots minority person outside his house on public sidewalk
2) Racist and wife confront minority person abuse and assault minority person in public which is caught on video
3) Racist is charged with assault.
4) Racist has angry mob congregate outside his house and suddenly doesn't seem willing to come out and confront people.
That's what actually happened.

This guy is done. Which no doubt saddens you, most of us however have little sympathy for him.
