Look into a home warranty depending on the age of the house you're buying.

Our realtor was my wife's friend and has been in real estate 35 years. Her gift to us after buying the house was paying for our 1st year of home warranty because she recommended it so highly. I would have never gotten one if not for that as I thought they were a scam. I renewed it when it expired and we have used it a few times. It's probably about breakeven on cost so far but everything in our house was virtually new when we got it so I could easily see how it could be worth it.
I just looked into this for a bit, so it's like insurance but specifically for when things fail around the house? How much do you spend on it? I could see myself enjoying that since I'm not particularly handy but it does seem hard to justify a monthly expense when insurance companies will do anything to not pay you

how did you pay rent just playing smash?

Winning a local or two every week?
Yeah I just was really lucky, North Carolina is lower cost of living and there is both a big population of people that played competitively, while also having a small amount of actually talented people that could whoop my ass. I would make enough to pay rent and bills and survive but it definitely wasn't enough to thrive off of, if that makes sense.
