I very much regret going Eldritch Knight instead of Arcane Trickster in the DnD campaign a friend ran, given how delightful an invisible, boosted Mage Hand would have been (and also because the campaign didn't last nearly long enough for Eldritch Knight to come into its own and I pretty much just sucked at both stabbing and spells). This, however, does sound like something I'd do. Screwing the party over because you got outsmarted is just being a poor sport, though.
