We were trying to save enough money for a down payment and had about one year left. Then the owner of our rental decided to sell it. Since we couldn't find anywhere that would take all of our dogs, we looked into buying a house. Turned out our credit scores were so good that we didn't need the 10-20% down payment. We were able to qualify for a 0% down payment loan. From the time we found a house to when they dropped the keys in my hand, we ended up only pay $3.5k.
