My opinions on the starting jobs in regards to how they would feel for a new player. This is completely ignoring the upgraded job and is strictly in regards to that road to 30 when starting from scratch.

Gladiator and Maruader - both basically going to feel the same at this point. Gladiator doing less damage is balanced a bit in later feel by have a more versatile AOE for those early dungeons where you're more likely to be surrounded as a tank thank have a bunch if enemies in a row. Job quest is mediocre for both. Overall I feel like both of these are totally decent to play as, and with how easy early dungeons are even you will feel pretty decent about Tanking after just Satasha.

Conjuror - Garbage. Feels bad to play, healing is waaaaay more stressful than tanking as far as first introductions go, and the job quests are some fo the worst. I know WHM has way more going on, but I don't think it's controversial to say that starting as a Conjurist is the worst introduction you can have to this game.

Archer - Only DPS that felt like absolute butt all the way through. Nothing about this felt good to me at all. As the only ranged physical DPS you can start as, I think this is just an issue with how this role feels without a real kit. The AOE is the only thing that I enjoyed and even that has the odd issue that it's hard to tell your....actual area of effect. Bad job quest.

Lancer - an odd one for sure, because it's one of the worst for the first 15 or so levels, then once you get Disembowl it starts going uphill fast. Very active in the 20s and felt good to play, but boy was the road there a slog. No AOE is a problem IMO. Bad job quest.

Thamaturge - pretty decent job quest (better than the actual ARR Black Mage at least lol), feels very active even without the movement thanks to the early job gauge, easy to grasp and feels good to get in the rhythm. Starting as a THM probably helped a lot on my drive to keep at it when I first started out.

Arcanist - Pretty dull. Definitely no comparison to THM, honestly the Carbuncle itself throughout these levels feels like an afterthought, and is practically irrelevant to the job quest itself, which is onky kind of decent, but also a little...wierd. Better than Conjuror at least, but not by much.

Pugilist - Good shit! Job quest is great, immediately active as the only started class with positionals, gives you a stance to play with, multiple straightforward combo strings, just a real fun time. Would probably say this is the best introduction class for the game in regards to DPS.

Rogue - I actually don't think this counts. Asking someone just starting out to restart at level 1 after reaching level 10 (or even way higher than that if you didn't start in Limsa) is a very different ask for an actual new player than me going back and leveling. I can do it in half an hour with the available tools, for an actual newbie that could be a full day's play session. Still, this gets a looot of props for the job quest, definitely the best of these. The actual melee DPS kit is totally serviceable, though I still couldn't get a hold of make the trick attack work in a dungeon. No AoE is a problem here, too.
