I mean what kind of threatening villain wears a bathrobe lmao. They tried to replace him with Kylo, but how would that work if you keep hinting a good side turn for him? Then they had to literally bring old , previously more succesful villain back from the grave to save the whole thing. I would've cared more about Snoke's origin if he was interesting, which he isn't, just like the "heros" of the story who failed to make as much of an impact on popular culture as characters from the previous trilogies did.
