The story to FFT is so overrated and cliche, and looks like garbage when placed next to a masterpiece like Tactics Ogre. FFTA at least tried something different storywise. I mean the guy who wrote the story for TO is the same guy who wrote FFT. It's no coincidence that a lot of the same themes are present and there being some fairly obvious analogues in both games.
