I'm gonna be honest, I second the FFTA dislike, but go further. I don't just dislike FFTA and FFTA2, those games made me realize I don't like the original FFT either.

I use to like it a lot as a kid, but after playing Fire Emblem I began to realize how much better Strategy RPGs can be. Your positioning and tactics in the FFT games don't mean jack. The supposed benefits of attacking enemies from certain angles or heights, and the use of the variety of different classes, don't matter that much at all. Compared to FE where the terrain, positioning, and units make a massive difference in whether your characters live or die. In the end, FFT just feels like playing a regular inconsequential RPG battle where you only need to brazenly ram your attacks into the enemy until they die while occasionally healing, only a lot slower and more boring because you have to move everybody everywhere. I tried out the Triangle Strategy demo and felt the same way. What's the point of doing stuff like using water magic to wet the ground and then zap it with lightning when it's not that significantly more effective than wacking enemies with your swords? Why should I care about attacking people from behind and getting up on high ground when everyone just clusters around and trade blows with each other in an uninspired way? There's no use for tactics in these tactics games and they bore me.
