That would just suggest to me those mathematicians and scientists probably didnt get the reference. That is to say, 2+2=5 being a statement about people being expected to believe something that is obviously contrary to reality, presumably on threat of punishment, is a George Orwell thing. And it has been used in Stalinist propaganda.

Granted, I may be generous in supposing the right wingers get the reference too.
