It's a valid excuse because if multiple games in a franchise are selling poorly, then it's too much of a risk to invest money and resources in another one when there's a strong chance it won't earn a profit The problem with this excuse is theyve gotten into the habit of seemingly purposefully making garbage games for franchises they want an excuse to kill off and then acting surprised when sales tank.
