Lying to the Senate

Attempting an armed insurrection to overturn an election.

well fuck. Those are obviously comparable.
I was somewhat young at the time, so I didn't delve into it much. But ever since, every time someone brings up that Bill lied to the Senate, I wonder, "why the fuck did he even say anything to them at all?"
Beyond like...a more politically correct version of, "go fuck yourselves."
Like, if it was me, I'd refuse to even entertain the question because it was ridiculous and none of Congress's business. I'd demand them to let me know what crime I had committed. Outright dare them to make fools of themselves trying to impeach me over it.
But never even give an answer, because:
1) fuck them
2) giving them a serious response only validates such ridiculous "inquiries"
3) fuck them

It was the lying under oath that got him into any trouble at all, it was so stupid and such an unforced error. Why did he do it?
