Well that's simply not true lol. If I hear someone in my home and blow a hole in their chest before they can do wtfever they broke in for, I'd say that offers me a tremendous advantage over, say, a golf club.
If I so much as hear a door being opened I can grab a gun and be ready for whatever, there's a firearm in almost every room in my house.

Let me ask you this: if you were a thief would you rather break into the home of a gun enthusiast, or the home of a pacifist?
