Some get money from someone else. Sometimes barely scraping by. Depending on how bad it gets, some will go to food banks and homeless shelter, if there are any. Possibly move in with friends or family. Or a church. Some even make their kids bring school food home for the whole family. Which is why they made they rule that kids who use the free food thing at school have to eat it all there and throw away what they don't eat or something...
