That logic doesn't make sense. If you're saying that the job is not worthy and the employer will fuck with you, you saying an unreasonably high number will just get laughed out, because they will screw you and just get another employee.

Let's say you're worth in the $75,000 range. You think they're gonna look at you some kind of way if you instead ask for $77,500 or $80,000? It's called a range for a reason.
Your post said treat it like a pawn shop deal. A ~7% increase is not a pawn shop deal. I agree with you that if you're worth $75k, won't hurt to ask for $80k.
