Actually, the biggest mistake of the Russo-Japanese War was Tsar Nicholas ending it. The Japanese weren't exactly in great straits there, but the battle looked bad enough to convince the Tsar to take advice to sue for peace. It was really the point of no return for the fall of the Russian Empire.

You see that landmass to the Northwest of Japan? That's eastern Russia, bordering China, Mongolia, and for a really tiny bit what appears to be the Korean Peninsula.
