For the most part, yes. Ownership of human remains is perfectly legal in 49 of the US states. Except Louisiana which apparently has a grave robbing problem.
They have really weird rules about this kind of thing. One time the cops almost charged my mom with unlawful disposal of a body because she was burying a deceased pet. They didnt charge her, but they acted like they really wanted to.
