25. Soulcalibur (1998)
System: Arcade
Played with: Girlfriend, strangers

When I was a kid, there was an arcade in my local mall, and about once a week my dad would take me there and would let me spend a few bucks playing games. To be honest, I don't remember most of them. I recall a robot mech game that I didn't really understand, a boxing game, DDR of course but I never touched that. I spent a lot of time on Air Hockey, though I don't quite think that'll count for this list. What I always gravitated towards was the fighting games. I wasn't very good at them, but I loved the big, unique rosters. One of my favorite series has always been Soul Calibur. I've owned just about every game in the series on home consoles. I was torn between this and SC3 for this list. While of course they're not the objective best, 3 was most likely I spent the most time on on my PS2. But cut to a few years ago, I was out on a pizza date at a local shop, and to my surprise they just happened to have an original Soulcalibur arcade cabinet set up there. My eyes lit up immediately, and playing it made me feel like a kid again. I knew every character (Kilik, Rock and Maxi have always been my go-tos), and it still felt just as natural almost two decades later.
