They were given a very short development cycle to make a video game in a prestige series and managed to not only find a way to make reused assets intriguing but also cram the game full of interesting new shit. I will never not find it fascinating how thickly crammed the world is with interesting stuff despite the simplistic layouts, or how much mileage they got out of setting and good atmosphere and letting stuff Ocarina mostly ignored like dialogue and side content do the heavy lifting. Most of that was done out of necessity but it was executed so well its actually well disguised --- I pray god will curse the writer, as the writer has cursed the world with this beautiful, stupendous creation, terrible in its simplicity, irresistible in truth ...
