Some got mad because she was a woman playing a powerful character. Others got mad because Marvel made a big deal out of nothing. It's a little on the nose when Marvel announces its strongest hero yet and she's the first female protagonist they've had.

It's especially irksome since Wanda and Widow, characters who eventually got their own shows, were more interesting characters. In any event, the hate was overblown.
