Yeah, when it's not an event or I don't have any specific objective in mind (leveling units or accumulating specific resources), I only play the game very lightly and just do dailies. It's the same when I have a tighter IRL schedule at the moment. When I'm just level grinding in 0-2 or 10-4e, I set up planning mode and let the run finish itself while I do other stuff, reset the run with a new DPS, and rinse and repeat as needed. I can focus on other things and still make progress in this game. I've become close to burning out a few times before I started doing things this way and this is how I now keep things in balance and keep up my interest. It's worked for me so far! I know I'm in a good spot in the game where if I had to give it a lengthy break for whatever reason I wouldn't lose too much progress, so that's always good to keep in mind.

I started playing in November 2018, a week before the Guilty Gear x Blazblue collab (that's what convinced me to play -- I like those two franchises) and I've been with the game ever since. Starting the game out was really brutal -- I had to work my ass off to be able to get Elphelt and Noel before the collab ended, which I really wanted. I managed to barely got Elphelt on one of the last two days of the event. I'm glad the devs added all that QoL for new players because starting a new game was the worst part of the experience for me (we didn't have any of that stuff: pre-leveled and linked dolls, free combat reports, free cores, bonus freebie units, etc., we had to do everything from scratch).

I guess there's a part of me that likes the busywork. I like seeing the result of how far I've come when the only way to get there is the hard way and I like the research and experimenting. It's part of the reason why I like the ranking maps a lot. I've played other games that had a lot of busywork and I quit those because it got really boring at some point but it just works for me in this game for some reason. It's the same in Arknights, my main mobile side game as well as a few PC RPGs I play. The music, characters, story, events, and world-building keep me engaged and coming back for more.

The grind gets to everyone at some point to varying degrees, so I understand if people need to make some play adjustments or they quit altogether. It's definitely not a game for everyone; that part can't be understated enough.

The best way to avoid imitation is to make that imitation take effort. If imitators liked hard work, they wouldn't be imitators.
