I was hyped by the combination of Junji Ito and Lovecraft. It promised two tutorial campaigns and then either a roguelite mode (Your skills, character, town, quests and so on is randomized) which has you tackling a procedurally generated story and combination of quests, with an Elder God in mind at the end to kill. Edit: Or a build-your-own mode that disables achievements but lets you be and do whatever.

It uses P&C Adventure, turn based combat, light inventory management/survival horror and lots of CYOA checks of your skills vs losing HP. My biggest problem with the game is that it immediately puts you in the ass-end of things with nothing but your firsts and starting gear, which is nothing. Every time. I started as a woman with a list of five sidequests and they all had great art and narrative but consisted of nothing more than reaching the end boss/monster/failstate in >2 minutes. Every one of them. Full of tentacles, monsters, cultists, etc. Really steps on the gas instantly and that broke my immersion.

I dunno. No one really talks about obscure horror games, but I dig them. If anyone was interested in this one I'd pick up Cultist Simulator instead. Great game.
