Trying to tred lightly here. It's that their issues are seen as less important than the struggles of the black community. It's similar to how black women had to create separate movements because despite fighting for feminism and black rights, their issues were often pushed back in favor of issues of black men and white women. I don't necessarily know if it's on purpose, but basically when the "average" American thinks racism, they think of relations between whites and blacks. It's an issue, but it won't really be addressed until Asian Americans force it to the forefront and refuse to let it be ignored.
