maybe fairness in punishment, like if two people commit the same crime, they receive the same sentencing.

but it's not really overall fairness, since if someone kills someone you love, for example, and they're sentenced to 25 years in prison, they still have a chance at life even though the person they killed doesn't.

or if you consider capital punishment to be an extension of justice, if someone is going to be executed for murdering a family, that's only one life weighed against multiple lives.
