Doesn't he eventually go up for reelection at some point? He needs some people to like him He's in a district that's safely going to vote red without fail. As such, his re-election is always guaranteed barring someone from his own party running against him and winning. As things stand, his son will likely replace him in the seat and same capacity. Because he'll never get voted out, he can be the one to do all these unpopular things while everyone else falls in line after him. So even if he somehow was gone, someone else in a safe seat would replace him. The only real way to stop them is either the creation of a viable third party that doesn't steal seats from Democrats, or an immense splintering of the Republican party. That, or some successful series of assassinations that take out at least a dozen sitting Republican senators.
